THUNDER BAY– NDP MPPs Judith Monteith-Farrell (Thunder Bay – Atikokan) and Sol Mamakwa (Kiiwetinoong) are calling on Doug Ford to act now to get free rapid COVID tests to Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario, after the Ford government left out the region from its plans for rapid test pop-up sites.
“Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario are facing more COVID cases, yet Doug Ford has left our region out of provincial plans for free rapid COVID tests. Ford’s decision to ignore Northerners during the rise of the Omicron variant means risking the further spread of COVID in our communities.
Our public health units, community health organizations and Indigenous-led health organizations are waiting on these resources to help stop the spread of the new variant.
The Ford government should be helping us stop the virus, not making families wait for this critical tool to keep them safe. New Democrats are calling on Doug Ford to act now to ensure that families in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario get easy access to free COVID tests right away.”
